Transport (i.e. everything else is just...) -- Part II

Feb. 14th, 2012 | 09:25 pm

Title: Transport (i.e. everything else is just...) -- Part II
Author: skyvehicle
Rating: PG-13
Genre: AU, sci-fi, angst, adventure
Disclaimer: I don't own any of this.
Summary: Before he had his consciousness inserted into a spaceship, Sherlock Holmes was just an ordinary man. Well, not ordinary. He was never ordinary. Here's where extraordinary begins.

There are plenty of things that are decidedly more important than John Watson, so the fact that Sherlock is focusing his energy on watching a tremor in John's hand is... more than just slightly worrying.

Title: Transport (i.e. everything else is just...) -- Part I
Author: skyvehicle
Rating: PG-13
Genre: AU, sci-fi, angst, adventure
Disclaimer: I don't own any of this.

Summary: Sherlock Holmes is a spaceship. No, really. He wasn't always a spaceship. He used to be just an ordinary person like everyone else. Well, not ordinary exactly... ordinary as in he had lungs and a heart and all those other important organs once, ordinary that he walked around and ate and drank and did ordinary things like that. But that was where ordinary ended: Here's where extraordinary begins.

A/N: I'm really trying to figure out how to properly summarize this baby, but I can't think of a thing to say other than that. This is loosely based on 'The Ship Who [blank]ed', a sci-fi series written by Anne McCaffrey. Quite loosely, though. This happens to be one of my very favorite tropes in all of fandom, which is silly because nobody ever writes it. There's only like 3 fics out there, to my knowledge, and this is the third.

Kudos to taconaco and epistolic for cheerleading.

Do you always just pop into conversations unannounced?" John snaps irritably. Sherlock's voice had caught him off guard. "Is this a thing with you? You just sit up in a room with a microphone, waiting for someone to say your name?"

wham, bam, I've got 3,000 words of Spaceship-fic written.

I promised myself that I'd never be one of those lame lj'ers who only write posts about the fact that "OOH I AM WRITING." But I guess my resolve kindof sucks.

Looking forward to posting the first part of this!

So you know that SPACESHIP!AU trope that I love? You know, based on Anne Mcaffrey's 'The Ship Who [past-tense verb]'series? You know, where I've only ever read two fics of (Firefly and Inception)? Well fuck me, because I'm writing it for Sherlock.

And fuck me, it's going to be fucking epic.

That is all.

So I have written about 3,000 words of the next part of Sitting Pretty, my INCEPTION EQUESTRIAN AU. OH YEAH. The one that I still can't believe I even started writing in the first place. But I was suddenly struck with inspiration via a comment I received the other day asking if I was going to ever continue. And I thought to myself, "i really want to". And so I sat down last night and cranked out 2k words, and today I almost added another thousand, and I feel really excited. So Imma give y'all a preview.

(check the 'equestrian au holy god wtf' tag for the first two chapters)

Eames is fourth to ride, and while Arthur really doesn't think he should watch. But really, what is he going to do? Keep his eyes closed while Eames' ride is broadcasted on the monitor that's standing not three feet feet away from where Arthur is sitting? Excuse himself from holding to go brood in the grass by himself?

So he watches Eames and take off at a gallop on his horse, Lucid Dreamer.

Eames' form is good, better than good, but it's his horse, the grey thoroughbred mare, that catches Arthur's attention. No doubt Eames comes from a long line of horse people, the kind with heaps of money to spend on horses that no doubt were sired by expensive champion after expensive champion, until it's all just this big orgy of expensive things and good breeding and high class and...

Yeah. Arthur is feeling some serious horse envy.

Watching Eames and Lucid Dreamer and their perfectly timed jumps, their perfectly timed strides, watching the way horse and man seem to think with the same mind... it makes Arthur incredibly angry at how unfair life can be.

Arthur grew up in Virginia. He went to public school. He would carpool to riding lessons because his parents both worked. He would play with the stable cats when his ride was late in picking him up afterwards. His parents bought him his first horse instead of a car, and made him pay half the boarding fees.

Being the only high school kid in rural Virginia without a car was no easy thing to live through. Arthur got into biking so he wouldn't have to depend on anyone else. He biked 8 miles from school to the barn every day, and 4 miles from the barn to his house every night. He got paid to exercise the horses of other boarders, he helped run horse camps in the summer. He started teaching beginner lessons. He stayed local in for college because things were starting to happen for him. Things were starting to fall into place.

He would have put money on the childhood he's imagined for Eames. Living in massive estates sitting on acres and acres of land. His family's own personal stable filled with his family's own personal horses from only the best bloodlines. Olympic riders as coaches and instructors for little Eames.

Eton and Cambrige and Winchester and the Dragon School, family coat of arms hanging on the walls and printed on personalized stationary, which would be written on with quills, honest to god quills. And inkpots and writing desks and cars and horse drawn fucking carriages. Going on "holiday" with his friends in Spain, Italy, the south of France, paying people to ride his horses for him so they don't get lazy. Having so much money that he can just travel all around the world to compete in horse shows and 3-days and puissance and-

"Well, bollocks."

With that, Arthur is snapped out of the dark and scary place that his mind has become. All the riders in holding are looking like they've all just been told that Santa isn't real, and whatever just happened on the monitor just broke the news to them.

What Arthur sees, and what seems to be disappointing everyone else, is...

WOAHHH CLIFFHANGERRRR!!! If you want to find out what happens, you gotta read part three. Well, first I gotta finish writing part three, and THEN you gotta read it. Guys I am so excited to be writing this. I doubt any of you still care, but for those who just might, IT is ON! I AM BACK. I am WRITING.

some thor fic (yea i guess)

Dec. 11th, 2011 | 02:54 am

so I wrote some Thor fic.

The Fallen by multicoloredgypsy

or, I wrote some unfinished Thor fic a few months ago, finally got sick of this unfinished thing just sitting in my documents folder, and rushed out some uninspired ending to go with what really was an inspired beginning, i guess. well, as inspired as fanfic goes.

and then someone commented ALREADY calling me out for the cop-out ending. oh well. I'm not really bothered. this totally was a cop out ending.

oh well, at least I punctuated.

Two quick Thor fic recs

Nov. 6th, 2011 | 08:49 pm

Promise Me by Nature's Girl. Literally just read this 5 minutes ago, and I just need to pass this on because it was just really well written, haunting, and SO SO PAINFUL. It deals with what happens after the movie, assuming that the post-credits Avengers preview never happened.

The Calculator by katsudon. This is, pretty much, the best fic on the internet. I don't know why the world isn't absolutely blowing up over this, because it's literally THE best. A norsekink fill turned into a nearly 40k word epic about how amazing Loki is. Pretty much. Every single character is spot-on (includes some of SHIELD and the Avengers), the tone is the perfect mix of hilarious and intense. I really couldn't sing enough praises for this. Just read it, guys. It's so good.

I have a confession to make (aka, my favorite fanfiction trope)

Nov. 2nd, 2011 | 03:30 pm

My absolute favorite trope in fanfiction (and I'm saying this now because I've only recently come to terms with this flaw in my design) is where someone is a spaceship. Or, to be more specific, The Ship Who Soared AUs.

The Ship Who Soared (and other stories) is a series by Science Fiction/Fantasy queen Anne McCaffery. You know, she wrote all those dragonrider books. It's about humans whose bodies are sick or failing or pretty much just awful, so they get their brains plugged into spaceships. It's really cool. And it is my favorite, FAVORITE AU fanfic trope!!!!

The only problem is... there really aren't that many of them. AT ALL. In fact I've only seen two.

Years ago, lasergirl wrote a Firefly AU where Wash is Serenity. Wash is the spaceship. I went looking for it yesterday and I finally found it again. Now it's on AO3. It's called, well, The Ship Who Soared, and not only is it wonderful and fulfilling of all my loves, it's also really REALLY well written. It's also unfinished, and pretty much nobody's seen/read this. But it's really good. Guys, it's really good.

Recently, someone wrote an Inception AU where ARTHUR is a spaceship. Well, it's first and foremost an AU in that inception now takes place IN SPACE, and secondly that Arthur is the spaceship. Ghost in the Machine by fools_song.

So my question is this: DOES ANYBODY ELSE KNOW ANY MORE OF THESE FICS??? Seriously people, I love it. I think a Cowboy Bebop one could actually be perfect.
